Google Business Profile Optimisation for Irish Businesses That Should Be Showing on Google Maps
When someone in Tralee, Tallaght or Tuam searches “electrician near me” or “dentist open Saturday”, the decision is often made on the map result alone: your rating, your photos, your opening hours, a call button. If your listing is unverified, suspended, in the wrong category or sitting on 11 reviews against a competitor’s 140, no amount of website work will fix that.
DigiWizard optimises and manages Google Business Profiles for businesses across Ireland, from fixing a stuck verification to building a review routine that keeps working after we step back. Book a free consultation and we will look at your live profile on the call.

Why your competitor is in the map pack and you’re not
Google says local results are driven mainly by relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot move your premises, but you can influence the other two, and you can choose how your location is represented.
We start with a side-by-side audit against the businesses currently showing for your main searches, checked from the towns your customers actually search in, not just from our desk. You get a plain-language gap list covering categories, listed services, review count, recency and content, photo quality, the page your profile links to, and citation consistency.
Suspended, stuck in verification or locked out?
Google now uses video verification far more often, particularly for new profiles, service-area businesses and categories that attract spam. Which method you are offered depends on your category, address type and account history. The usual reasons for failure are simple but costly:
We prepare you before you start: what to show, in what order, and how to keep names consistent. If a profile is suspended, we identify the likely cause, correct it, and submit one well-prepared reinstatement request. Repeated rushed attempts can make things worse. We cannot guarantee reinstatement because Google makes that decision, but a prepared request is far stronger than a repeat attempt.
If an old web designer or agency still owns your profile, we also guide you through the ownership-transfer process so you control your own listing.
- Service-area businesses can hide the address but must still show real proof of operation during verification.
- Virtual offices, parcel addresses and borrowed premises breach Google’s guidelines and put the listing at risk.
- Listing a whole county as your service area does not make you rank in all of it. We choose realistic target towns and build proof around them.
- Eircode, opening hours (including bank holidays) and phone number must match across your site and other listings.
Storefront, service area or both? Getting the address right in Ireland
Many Irish tradespeople, consultants and home-based businesses do not want a home address public. Others share a unit, work from a co-working space or serve a dozen towns across a county. Each set-up has rules:
- Our Optimisation Process
What we optimise, in order of impact
Categories
the primary category matters most and is the most commonly misset. We choose it from live competitor data and add supporting categories you genuinely qualify for.
Services and descriptions
every service listed with a clear, customer-language description rather than a blank list.
Business description
written for people, with no keyword stuffing, links or promotions.
Photos and short video
real work, real team, real premises. Stock images do not help.
Attributes, hours and special hours
accurate, including Irish bank holidays and seasonal changes.
Booking and website links
pointing to the right page for each service, with tracking tags, not always the homepage.
Posts
used as supporting updates, not as a ranking trick.
Reviews & Reputation
Reviews are the most visible trust signal in the listing.
Reviews: more of them, without breaking Google’s rules
Reviews are the most visible trust signal in the listing. We set up a routine your team can run in seconds: a direct review link or QR code and a simple script for asking at the moment a customer is happiest.
We do not buy reviews, offer discounts for them, filter who gets asked, or use in-store review stations, all of which Google’s policies discourage. We also write replies to every review, including difficult ones, and report clearly fake or competitor-driven reviews with evidence. Reviews that naturally mention the service and the town you worked in are the most useful, to both customers and Google’s AI summaries.

Q&A is gone: what customers meet in Maps now
Google has discontinued the Business Profile Q&A section and is replacing it with Ask Maps, a Gemini-powered feature that answers customer questions using your profile information, reviews and photos. Rollout is gradual, so we check what is actually visible for Irish users when we audit.
The practical consequence: wherever your profile is thin, Google may fill the gap from reviews or other sources you do not control. We test the questions your customers really ask (call-out charges, areas covered, parking, accessibility, availability), fix the gaps in your profile and website, and re-test.

Who owns your profile, and what is it actually delivering?
Ownership: you should be the primary owner. We check manager access, remove people who no longer work with you, and document it.
Tracking: we measure calls, direction requests, website clicks and booking clicks from the profile. Where possible we tag links so GA4 shows what the profile actually produces, and we use neighbourhood-level rank checks rather than a single “position 1” screenshot. You receive a monthly report in plain language.

Questions Irish business owners ask about their profile
Straight answers on verification, addresses, multiple locations and timelines — with no guaranteed positions.
Book a free consultation and we will review your profile live and tell you what to fix first.
Do I need a website to have a Google Business Profile?
Not strictly, but linking to a fast, relevant page usually turns more profile views into enquiries. We can advise on the right landing page.
Can I hide my home address?
Yes, if you serve customers at their location and set the profile up as a service-area business. Verification rules still apply.
A competitor has keywords in their business name. Can you report it?
We can document and report it with evidence. Google decides the outcome and timing, so we plan your strategy without relying on it.
I have two or three locations. How does that work?
Each location needs its own profile and, ideally, its own useful local page. We keep names, categories and details consistent.
How long until I see results?
Some fixes affect visibility within weeks. Competitive rankings are gradual and vary by category and town. We never guarantee positions.
